Khmer Krafts
Khmer Krafts has created an opportunity for more than forty young women from poverty stricken families to earn an income higher than the average wage in a safe and secure environment. Seven of the women currently live in the compound and the rest live in Battambong and the surrounding areas.
The project, “Purses with a Purpose”, gives the women a forum in which to learn a skill and trade by making purses. The program, directed by Chhavon Yos, provides far more than income. As the program has grown so has a sense of empowerment and self-confidence among the women. The orders to Khmer Krafts pay the wages and some of the expenses, but many of the operational needs must be met by donations.
