Summary
Several of us, having spent time in Cambodia, have been burdened in our hearts for helping Believers in this poor third world area develop and build their country. Being good stewards of what God provides is an example of how Christ can change lives and give hope and comfort in these times. And, as these Brothers and Sisters benefit and develop it attracts others to what Christianity is all about!
Primarily, Lydia’s activities are carried out to help the poor and disadvantaged, particularly women, in the Third World country of Cambodia. After the atrocities and genocide that Pol Pot inflicted on this population, they have and continue to have major problems and difficulty rebuilding their society.
The directors of Lydia have all spent time and effort working in Cambodia. And, all have a similar passion. Working with different organizations has given each of us great insights into the needs and progress of Cambodian society. Many groups working in Third World Countries provide humanitarian support, counseling, and/or ministry that is much needed, but creates a kind of welfare situation that causes dependence on support from outsiders. We feel it is important to take that one step further through sustainable entrepreneurial development, which provides jobs, incomes, and allows them to take ownership and become self-supporting in what they can contribute. This allows the people to become productive members of their own culture and society.
The one exception to our entrepreneurial approach is orphans who with good nurturing and educational opportunities will be the future leaders in this society.
